President of Indonesia Launches the Country’s First Islamic Economy Master Plan

KNKS, Jakarta - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, as the Head of the National Islamic Finance Committee (KNKS) launched the Indonesian Islamic Economics Master Plan (MEKSI) 2019-2024 at Bappenas Building (05/14/2019). MEKSI 2019-2024 is the country’s first road map for Islamic economy that aims to strengthen the national economy.

The development of MEKSI 2019-2024 involves all parties of Islamic economy, such as regulators, industry players, academics, and associations. Moreover, a study has been conducted from several regions in order to get the real depiction of Islamic economy condition in this country. It was agreed to become a joint reference of Indonesia's Islamic economy development, which was implemented to government’s work program.

Alongside the launch of MEKSI 2019-2024, KNKS signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with various institutions and industry players. There are: (1) MoU on the "Development of Digital Payment Systems and Sharia Electronic Money" with Mandiri Syariah, BRI Syariah, BNI Syariah, BTN Syariah, and PT Finarya (LinkAja), (2) MoU on the "Development of Halal Marketplace and Sharia Financial Products through the Digital Market Place Platform" with Bukalapak and Tokopedia, (3) MoU on the “Development of Sharia Scheme in Employee Provident Fund Program" with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, (4) MoU on the "Sharia Financial Sector Development through the Utilization and Correctional Services of the Indonesian Islamic Financial Sector" Chief Financial Officer Club of Indonesia, (5) MoU on the "Education Development, Research and Community Service Related to Islamic Economy" with Universitas Indonesia, Institute Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Islam Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry Aceh, STEI Tazkia, and Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, and (6) MoU on the “Financial Services Development and Sharia Economy in Villages, Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration Areas" with the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia.

Before launching MEKSI 2019-2024, KNKS held the first Indonesia Islamic Economy Festival (IIEFest) 2019 as pre-launching event on April 26 in Bandung. This event comprised talk show of the halal digital industry, halal tourism, Islamic edutainment, and Muslim modest fashion. In addition, there were halal industry exhibitions that attended by regulators, industry players, millennial start-ups, SMEs, and the general public. IIEFest 2019 aimed to introduce and promote the halal industry and lifestyle to the society by showcasing the benefit of halal products.
